Environmental activists from Eco Patrol released a video on 21 August showing fresh logging near Ijevan in the Tavush region. Following the report, Armenia’s Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body inspected Ijevan Forestry and recorded around 700 illegally felled trees of various types and diameters, covering the period from August 2024 to July 2025. The findings were submitted to the Investigative Committee for legal action.
Eduard Karapetyan from the state Eco-Patrol Service stated there has been no significant increase in logging overall, attributing the higher number of reported cases to improved monitoring. He noted that illegal logging occurs not only in Ijevan but also in other regions. Official data shows Armenia’s forest cover has declined from over 11% of territory in the 1990s to 9.7% today.
