Increasing urbanization, demographic shifts, consolidation of infrastructure and intensification agricultural production are contributing to a decline in overall deforestation though continuing and important risks to key forest ecosystems and areas remain. The paper provides valuable insight for the development of REDD+ strategies and reference scenarios as well as priorities for forest conservation in this megadiverse country.
