RedLAC implements a capacity building project with the objective of strengthening the capacity of EFs to develop innovative financial mechanisms for biodiversity conservation, reducing their dependence on donations, and also to support the establishment of new EFs, by systematizing and sharing proven best practices in funds day to day operation.
This book was prepared to support the first workshop of the capacity building initiative, focusing on Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) and the potential of this mechanism to mobilize resources for conservation projects. Some
Environmental Funds have developed PES projects, which now serve as examples to be replicated by their peers. This is the case of the Mexican Fund for Nature Conservation (FMCN), who was a partner of Funbio in the organization
of this workshop, in the city of Guadalajara, in México, on November 12 to 14, 2010.
