‘Better late than never’: Myanmar bans timber exports to save remaining forests

Deforestation in Myanmar has resulted in significant habitat loss across a variety of interconnected ecosystems within the bio-diverse nation. Such effects are devastating on not only ecosystems, but also on wildlife and indigenous societies. The nation enacted a ban on raw timber exports to mitigate the loss of forestry and ecosystems; the effectiveness of such a ban is contested.
