World Water Congress: Building a Green Infrastructure Agenda for the Latin American Water Sector

Green infrastructure – management of the ecosystems that provide and regulate water – is an indispensable complement to conventional “gray” infrastructure in achieving water security. One of the major barriers to scale for green infrastructure, however, is the ability to quantitatively estimate its hydrological benefits. This session will bring together engineers, policymakers, economists and environmental experts to highlight scientific innovations to support benefit quantification and advance a cross-sectoral effort to address critical gaps in data, methodologies, financing and capacities.
The session will include presentations from Torgny Holmgren, Executive Director of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), Gena Gammie, Associate Director from Forest Trends, Carlos Herrera Amighetti, Vice President of the Assembly of Drinking Water and Sanitation Regulators of the Americas (ADERASA), Daniella Torres Deputy Chief Resilience Officer from Mexico City.
Presenters will be joined by a panel to discuss the opportunities and challenges for scaling green infrastructure. The panelists will be Yury Pinto, General Secretary of the National Water Authority (ANA), Adrien Tieche, Commercial Director of Suez Mexico, and George Van Houtven, Director and Senior Economist for Ecosystem Services Research at RTI International.
Simultaneous English-Spanish interpretation will be available.

Construyendo una Agenda de Infraestructura Verde para el Sector de Agua Potable de América Latina

La infraestructura verde – gestión de los ecosistemas que proveen y regulan el agua – es un complemento indispensable a la infraestructura “gris” convencional para lograr la seguridad hídrica. Sin embargo, una de las principales barreras al escalamiento de la infraestructura verde es la capacidad de estimar cuantitativamente sus beneficios hidrológicos. Esta sesión reunirá a ingenieros, políticos, economistas y expertos ambientales para destacar las innovaciones científicas para apoyar la cuantificación de beneficios y avanzar en un esfuerzo intersectorial para abordar las lagunas críticas en datos, metodologías, financiamiento y capacidades.
La sesión incluirá presentaciones de Torgny Holmgren, Director Ejecutivo del Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), Gena Gammie, Directora Adjunta de la Iniciativa de Agua de Forest Trends, Carlos Herrera Amighetti, Vicepresidente de la Asamblea de Reguladores de Agua Potable y Saneamiento de las América (ADERASA), Daniela Torres, Directora Adjunta de Resiliencia de la Ciudad de México.
A los presentadores se les unirá un panel para discutir las oportunidades y desafíos de escalar la infraestructura verde.
