Shifting Markets for Sustainably Managed Forests

October 12, 1999 - October 20, 1999

Consumer pressure for sustainable forestry is growing. The forest certification movement is advancing quickly and now serves buyers' groups globally. Particularly in Europe, markets recognize the value of sustainability and are demanding independent certification of forest products from their suppliers. Forest Trends and the Netherlands Committee for IUCN held a meeting on "Shifting Markets for Sustainably Managed Forests" in Garderen, Netherlands from October 18-20, 1999.
