Abstract

This updated Overview document with its Principles on Biodiversity Offsets, introduction to the Standard on Biodiversity Offsets, and the accompanying supporting materials have been prepared by the Business and Biodiversity Offsets Programme (BBOP). Its aim is to help developers, conservation groups, communities, governments and financial institutions wishing to consider and develop best practice related to achieving no net loss of biodiversity through the thorough application of the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, minimize, rehabilitate/restore, offset). These products have been developed and tested by members of the BBOP Secretariat and Advisory Group1 since 2004 and have benefited from contributions and suggestions from many people who registered on the BBOP consultation website and numerous others who have joined us for discussions in meetings.
